Many women are asking questions regarding Keratin Treatments. What is it, how does it work, is it safe during pregnancy and breast feeding? ? ?
After a ton of research I am hoping to answer many of these questions as accurately and informatively as I can.
What is it?
The Global Keratin hair treatment is a keratin-based treatment that straightens hair naturally without harsh chemicals. It is a reconditioning treatment that transforms the hair and restores shine. This incredible treatment is designed for people who have curly, frizzy and damaged hair! By infusing keratin deep into the hair cuticle, Global Keratin uses hair's natural ingredient to achieve radical shine, beautiful smoothness and healthy, manageable style. Everyone can benefit from Keratin Treatments, even over-processed and chemically damaged hair. In fact, the more damaged the better and the longer the treatment lasts. It deeply reconditions and repairs, making it so much more than just a straightening system.
The immediate result is soft, shiny, healthy & luxurious - and unlike other chemical treatments and relaxers, can be used on coloured or chemically straightened hair.
What will Keratin Treatment do?
Keratin is found in skin, hair, nails and teeth. When it comes to hair, damaged keratin will looks dry and brittle. Keratin treatments protect and smooth hair shafts by coating the hair follicle. The cortex(second layer of hair) is changed after the bonds of keratin are applied. Keratin is used to change the structure of the hair on the inside of the shaft and then bonds and locks into place on the outside of the hair follicle.

How much does the treatment cost?
On average in Sydney the price generally varied between $250 - $450 depending on the salon.
Is it safe during pregnancy and Breast feeding?
I am going to have to say no! This is highly debatable and this is my personal opinion based on my research and findings. Keratin treatments contain formaldehyde which is not safe during pregnancy or nursing. Research suggests that further tests and experiments need to be carried out in order to determine whether there could be harmful risks and dangers to your baby but from the phone calls and enquries myself and my friends have made 90% of the Hairdressers said they would NOT carry out the treatment on a pregnant women. I am a firm believer in "better to be safe than sorry" so if toying with the idea to have Keratin treatment I would advise against it. Even on the frequently asked questions page of the Keratin website they said 'no' to the question "Is it safe during pregnancy"
Are there alternatives and can I do this myself at home.
I am pleased to say, "yes you can".
My lovely friend Lauren let me in on a new product that has just been released in Australia which is a natural and organic Keratin treatment which contains no Formaldehyde and can be done in the privacy of your very own home. Lauren has tried it and loves it. This treatment is reasonably priced at RRP $29.95 AUD and will last for approximately 30 days. You will need a flat iron/ straightener that gets to very high temperatures (GHD) and a blowvdryer to lock in the product. I am now applying this for clients for $80.00 in Sydney so to book please follow the link :-)
